FAMILIES IN TRANSITION

ATTENDANCE AND CERTIFICATE

The Johnson County Courts require parents by court order, who have children between the ages of 8-16, to attend the Families in Transition (FIT) Class while their petition for the dissolution of marriage is pending. The required class is held at the Dispute Resolution Properties and we will do our best to ensure the registration process is simple, the course is educational, and that families are given tools for a peaceful transition as married to unmarried parents. We do our best to make sure parents will not attend the same class session. Children between the ages of 8-16 years are also required by the Court to attend a Families in Transition Class (FIT) scheduled separately from the parenting class. 

When parents and their children successfully complete the FIT class, we will notify the court of the parent’s compliance of the court order. We will file a Certificate of Completion of the FIT Program on behalf of each participant that completed their registered class within 3 days of completion. The notice of completion and the participants certificate will be through the Indiana E-Filing Service to the attorney of record or each party if unrepresented.

SCHEDULE/REGISTER AND LOCATION

Adult/Parent classes are typically scheduled either on a Thursday from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. or Saturday per month from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. (The date scheduled is a “tentative date” subject to change based on class size). The classes are presented by professionally trained instructors and are held at 40 East Jefferson Street, Franklin, Indiana 46131. To begin the registration process, a parent will pay for the Course by clicking this payment link (Pay for class here) or by clicking the payment link at the top of this page.  Once payment is made, a parent will receive an email to access and schedule for the “Parent Calendar” and “Teen/Kids Calendar.” You will schedule/register for one class only for yourself and you will register your teen/child for one class only. Drinks are allowed and restrooms are available. No third parties will be permitted to be present during the class. No childcare is available on site. Please make arrangements for childcare prior to your scheduled class. For other class options based on special circumstances, contact the FIT Director at carrie.thomson.paralegal@gmail.com regarding fees and scheduling. For the child’s class, participants are expected to be attentive. With that in mind, no child will be put on the spot. Discussion is welcomed and encouraged based on each child’s comfort level. 

Cost

The cost of the Adult/Parent class is $145.00 paid online, a service fee is included and is $150.00 total. There is no cost for the Child/Teenage class.

In the event you need to reschedule a class, you can reschedule by contacting carrie.thomson.paralegal@gmail.com via email, whereby you will be provided with a new link to schedule for a new class day and time.
